I took another break from the challenge last week, but I am ready to kick it into high gear this week!
Let’s start with a recap of Week 4: the Kitchen.
KONMARI WEEK 4: Kitchen
I cleaned out my kitchen not too terribly long ago, but it was still a wreck.
We’ve had two babies grow into toddlers since I last organized my cabinets, so there were lots of sippy cups, bottles, medicine droppers, etc. to deal with.
The pantry was also out of control, so I had to get that back in order.
I’m gonna be honest – the before photos aren’t pretty:
See? It’s a mess. It’s a really small pantry, just the width of a single closet.
But I did the best I could with what I had. Here are the “after” shots:
I organized my other items on the shelves, trying to put things I use most within easy reach.
The very top shelf has our cereal and other boxes. (My husband and I are both tall, so we can easily reach these items.)
The second shelf has condiments, breakfast items, and some baking items.
The third shelf has our canned goods (neatly arranged on a rack), plus a bin with all of our rice and pasta. Behind that are drink mixes, hot chocolate, and marshmallows.
On the bottom shelf, I put the things we use most frequently. There’s a basket for sweet snacks and one for salty snacks, then all of our most commonly used baking supplies are lined up behind the baskets.
KONMARI WEEK 5: toys & hobbies
This week we’re tackling allll the toys and hobby items. This includes:
- Craft supplies
- Hobby materials
- Sporting equipment
- Outdoor toys
- DVDs and CDs
- Board games
- Video games
- Baby swings, bouncers, strollers, etc.
- Party supplies
- Sewing supplies
- Vacation and swim toys
- BBQ grill and supplies
- Pool or spa supplies
This should be a big week for most of us. But the good news is that we’re over halfway to the goal! In just a few more weeks, our homes will be completely organized. Yay!
I’m already feeling so. much. better. about my home. It’s easier to pick out my clothes each day, grab everything I need before I walk out the door, cook dinner, and put away laundry.
Cleaning is also easier than ever because most everything is put away.
I’ll probably do this challenge every spring, just because I love how clean my home feels!
